1. Mathias Brandenburgh was born about 1743. He died on 20 Nov 1806 in Crab Tree Corner, Clark County, Kentucky.

Anyone searching the Internet for Matthias Brandenburg will find countless claims of royal descent.  Unfortunately, all of these claims are unsubstantiated and should be viewed as fiction.

Clark County, Kentucky, Deed Book 5, page 277, This Indenture made this 2nd day of June in the year of our Lord One 1804 between Matthias Brandenburg and Esther His wife of Clark County Kentucky of the one part and Samuel Brandenburg of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said Matthias Brandenburg and Esther his wife for and in Consideration of the sum of Thirty eight Pounds [about $150] Current Money of the said State to Them in hand will and Truly paid the receipt whereof They do hereby acknowledge.  They the said Mathias Brandenburg and Esther his wife Hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents Doth Grant bargain & sell unto the said Samuel Brandenburg his heirs and assigns all that messuage [dwelling & adjacent buildings & lands used by household] peace [sic] parcel or tract of Land Situate lying and being in the Said County on the Waters of Duetts Creek and bounded as follows: Beginning at a red Oak; Thence N70W 84 poles to Three Hiccorees in Hickmans line;  Thence with said line N65-1/2 poles to Morrows Corner; Thence with Morrows line S70E 84 poles to Duetts Creek; Thence with said Creek the Meanders thereof to the Beginning. Containing 32 Acres be the Same more or less.  Also all trees woods underwoods Waters Water Courses profits Commodities Advantages Hereditaments and Appurtenances Whatsoever to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining and the Reversion and reversions rents Issues and profits Thereof and of every part and parcel Thereof and all the estate Right Title Interest Claim and Demand whatsoever of them the said Mathias Brandenburg and Esther his wife of in and to the said peace [sic] parcel and tract of Land and every part thereof To have and To hold, the said Messuage piece parcel or tract of Land and all and Singular other the premesses above Mentioned and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances unto the said Samuel Brandinburg his heirs and assigns To the only proper use and behoof of the said Samuel Brandinburg his Heirs and assigns forever. Between Matthias Brandenburg and Esther his wife of Clark County Kentucky of the one part and John Brandenburg of the Same place of the other part Witnesseth that the said Matthias Brandenburg and Esther his wife for and in Consideration of Ten Dollars to them in hand paid the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge They The said Matthias Brandenburg and Esther his wife Have granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said John Brandenburg his heirs and assigns fall [forever] that peace [sic] parcel or tract of Land Situate lying and being in the said County on Duells Creek And bounded as follows (viz) Beginning at a white Oak and; Thence N38W 9 poles to a stone; Thence N48E 13 poles to a stone; Thence S40E 14 poles to a Stump; Thence S41W 5 poles to a Walnut Stump; Thence to the Beginning. 21 Mar 1807, Clark County, Kentucky, Will Book 2, Page 240, Matthias probate.  David Brandenburg was named Administrator of the Estate. In 1822 "Power of Attorney" was given to David by the Brandenburghs living in Hardin County to sell Matthias' land to his Thomas C Green, his brother-in-law. 11 Apr 1807, Clark County, Kentucky, Will Book 2, Page 259-260, Inventory of sale of Matthias Brandenburg's estate.

Mathias married Hester "Hettie" Wolgamott, daughter of Joseph Wuhlgemacht and Catherine, about 1764 in Frederick County, Maryland. Hester was born about 1745 in Frederick County, Maryland. She died on 18 Sep 1821 in Brandenburg, Meade County, Kentucky. She was buried in Peter Fontaine Cemetery, Brandenburg, Meade County, Kentucky.

Hester's grave is on the west hill with a fine stone marked "Mother of Solomon Brandenburg d. Sept 19, 1821 in her 77th year." in the Brandenburgh-Fontaine Cemetery.

Mason County, Kentucky, Deed Book V, page 153, This Indenture made and entered into this the 10th day of August and year of our Lord 1818 between Hetty Brandinburg of the County of Mason and State of Kentucky of the part, and David Brandinburg of Clarke County State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that that the said Hetty Brandinburg for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred dollars to her in hand paid by said David Brandinburg the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained, sold and conveyed unto the said David his heirs and assigns, a certain lot of land in the village of Maysick and part of William May's settlement. Beginning at a stake in the side of the road leading from the Lower Blue Licks to Limstone North twenty six East five poles to a stake in said road; Thence North sixty three East eight poles to a stake Thence South twenty six West five poles to a stake Thence to the Beginning To contain one fourth part of an acre it being the third lot from the North corner of the lot on which the meeting house now stands. To have and to hold the said lot with all and singular the appertenances thereunto belonging or any ways appertaining unto the said David his heirs and assigns forever to his or their only proper use benefit or behoof.  And the said Hetty for herself her heirs the said lot of land unto the said David his heirs and assigns will warrant and forever defend against the claim of all persons whatsoever, and it is stipulated and agreed by the parties that if the Hetty shall will and truly pay or cause to be paid to said David the sum of three hundred dollars on or before the thirteenth day of August next or Eighteen hundred and nineteen with legal interest for the payment of which this instrument is made or executed to the said David, then and in that case the above deed is to be null and void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. In witness whereof the said Hettie Blandingburg hath hereunto set her hand and seal the day and year above named. Hettie (X) Brandingburg. Teste: John Shotwell (seal). State of Kentucky, Mason County Seat. I, Marshall Keys Clerk of the County Court of said County certify that this deed of Mortgage from Hettie Blandingburg to David Blandingburg was this day produced in my office and acknowledged by the said Hettie Blandingburg to be her proper act and deed and the same is duly recorded in said office. Mason County, Kentucky, Deed Book 30, page 350, This Indenture made this 23rd day of July 1825 between Esther Brandenburg & Catharine called Hetty Brandenburg and David Brandenburg of Clark County and State of Kentucky of the one part and Edward Dobyns of Mason County and state of Kentucky aforesaid.  Witnesseth That the said Esther and David for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars in silver to them in hand paid by the said Dobbyns at and before the sealing of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have given. Granted. Bargained and sold and by these presents do give. Grant. Bargain. Sell and convey said Dobyns To have and to hold to him and his heirs forever in fee simple  one certain [blank] or lot of ground lying in Maysville a village situate in Mason County aforesaid which lot contains  one fourth of an acre thereabouts, under a post and rail fence being the third lot north from the meeting house on main street and on the East side of the Lexington road, it being the same lot which the said Esther purchased and procured a deed for from John Shotwell senior and the said Esther hereby warrant on behalf of herself and her heirs the lot aforesaid to the said Dobbyns against the claim or title of all persons whatsoever, the said Brandenburg joining in this deed merely to release all the title which he has in said lot by virtue of a deed of Mortgage which was executed to him by said Esther for said lot now of record in the Clerks office of Mason County Court. In Testimony whereof the said Esther and David have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals on the day and year first above written. Hester Brandenburgh, David Brandenburgh. Clarke County Clerks office July 25 1825, I,  James P. Bullock,  Clerk of the Court for the County aforesaid Do certify that this deed of bargain and sale from Esther Brandenburgh and David Brandenburgh to Edward Dobyns was produced before me and acknowledged by the said Esther and David Brandenburgh to be their act and deed.  Whereupon the same is hereby certified to the Clerk of the County Court of Mason where the land lies.         Catherine married Thomas C Green on 12 Feb 1808 in Clark County, Kentucky. Thomas was born in 1785 in Virginia. He died in 1850 in Clark County, Kentucky.
