Indiana Genealogical Society, Vol 10, No 4, page 136, submitted by Charmaine G Welker - Obituary from new Albany Daily Tribune, 2 Jun 1853, page 2, At Georgetown, Floyd county, Ind., on the 19th inst. Nancy Welker, wife of Daniel Welker in the 63rd year of her age. The deceased was born in Casey County, Ky on the 23rd January, 1791, in which State she resided until the autumn of 1817, when she with her husband, removed to Harrison county, Ind, then comparatively a wilderness. She was one of the pioneer mothers of Indiana, and as such beheld the infancy and subsequent manhood of our flourishing State, and endured the privations indigent to a new and uncultivated country. Mrs W possessed many traits of character that rendered her life a blessing to her husband, children and friends, and her death to them an irreparable loss. She was peculiarly kind and generous hearted in her disposition -- modest and amiable in her deportment. As a wife, mother, and friend, she was an example worthy of imitation. But, though her native graces were numerous, rendering her, truly, an ornament to her sex, she possessed that higher embellishment of the soul -- the religion of Jesus -- that shone with her as a diamond set in a casket of gold. She delighted not in the form alone, but it was her pleasure to do the deeds of godliness. About thirty years ago she made an open profession of religion and attached herself to the church of the United Brethren in Christ, in which she lived a pattern of piety until she fell asleep on the breast of her Master. Her disease being of a lingering character which she bore with a fortitude and resignation becoming her life, she was aware long before that the departure was near, Yet in all her conversation concerning death she was perfectly calm -- always expressing her entire willingness to go and be at rest. As her life was adorned with piety, her death was crowned with victory.  As fade the flowers of early May, As sleeps the zephyr on the stream, As sink to rest the God of day, But upwards sends his dying beam, So sweet, so calm, so bright, so blest, She sank upon her Savior's breast. L K W Georgetown, May 30th 1853.
